What research protocols discuss (educational)

Published research exploring HBOT and traumatic brain injury has generally described clinical pressures in the region of 1.5–2.0 ATA, delivered in supervised sessions over an extended course. We summarise this only to inform your reading and your discussion with a clinician. It is not a recommendation, a protocol to follow, or a claim of benefit — the findings are debated and the research is ongoing. Whether HBOT is appropriate for TBI in any individual case is a medical judgement for a qualified doctor or neurologist, not for an equipment supplier.

The concussion and mild-TBI angle

Much of the public interest in HBOT and brain injury centres on mild TBI and concussion — including sports-related concussion and injuries among veterans and serving personnel — where some of the more widely cited studies have explored lower clinical pressures around 1.5 ATA across long courses of many sessions. That is a distinct conversation from the acute, severe brain injury managed inside a hospital, and it involves different people asking the question — athletes, veterans' services and their families rather than intensive-care teams. We note this purely to orient your reading; it is not a claim that HBOT helps concussion or mild TBI, which remains debated and a matter for a qualified neurologist. On the equipment side, even these lower clinical pressures sit above mild soft-chamber range, so a hard chamber is still the relevant unit.

Why this points to a hard (clinical) chamber

On the equipment side, the pressures those protocols describe exceed what a mild soft chamber (1.3–1.5 ATA) provides, which points to a rigid hard chamber capable of clinical pressures. A single-user rehabilitation setup would use a monoplace clinical chamber such as a Sechrist; a facility treating several people would use a multiplace system from Perry Baromedical or Fink. TBI is an area where hyperbaric research is genuinely active but conclusions remain debated, and it attracts strong claims from some quarters. We avoid them. We do not state that HBOT treats, cures or reverses traumatic brain injury, and we would be cautious of any supplier who does. Our position is consistent: the evidence is debated, the decision is medical, and our role is limited to supplying the equipment honestly if qualified clinicians decide to pursue HBOT.
